We have 4 Minor Premiers playing home finals at Oyster Bay: 12D & 16B on Saturday and WSD1 & 45C1 on Sunday.

The BBQ will be operating both days, and the bar will be OPEN on Sunday 12 August 2018 from 12.00 pm. Come down and with any luck celebrate your team’s progression to the Finals/Grand Finals with your friends and clubmates.

For those wanting to watch the other age division’s semi-final, that game will be played immediately prior, (in the case of 1st vs 2nd) and immediately following, (in the case of 3rd vs 4th) at the SAME venue.

Finally, commiserations to those teams not making the finals – there is always next year.  In any case, come along and support your friend’s teams at one or more of the above venues.

Our mighty 16Bs claimed the Minor Premiership with their Round 18 victory. Well done boys!!

Another successful season of our Skills Clinic and 'Coaching the Coaches' wrapped up on Wednesday night. Our club was lucky enough to secure the services of accredited Sutherland Shire Football Association coaches to assist our players and coaches during the sessions.

Many thanks to Genevieve, Reagan, Jess and Mel for their enthusiasm and commitment shown every week, and for passing on their knowledge to the GRFC community.

Thanks to all the coaches who supported the program by allowing their players to attend, and special thanks to the handful of coaches who attended throughout the season, in particular to Alan Young who completed the course on Wednesday.

PRE-LOVED BOOTS WANTED!

We're collecting football boots for our 2019 "pre-loved" sale. All money raised will go toward improving our pitch. Please bring any unwanted boots down (laces tied together, wiped clean please) on Junior Presentation Day and drop into the box in our Ground Control room.

We are also collecting any GRFC gear (jackets etc) that the kids may have grown out of or no longer need.

Thanks for your support!

Our mighty 12Ds have claimed the Minor Premiership - 5 points clear with a game to go. Well done boys!!

Earlier this year we donated football gear for Dr Peter Locke and his wife Carolyn (parents of Andrew & Jack in our U18s) to take to Zambia as part of their latest medical mission.

Peter, Carolyn, their daughter Annalise and Steve Marcellino (another GRFC dad) were part of a team that saw 166 patients a day in very isolated communities. The work they do is very humbling but also very rewarding. Carolyn says that the joy that the Club's donations brought to the children was priceless:

"They have never had shirts, shorts, shin-pads or water bottles before. They have never even had balls to play with! The school we donated the gear to has 200 pupils (including 25 orphans) and zero sports equipment so you can imagine the excitement!"

A number of young GRFC players have put their hands up for next year's trip, perhaps an Australia vs Zambia match will be on the agenda?

Peter and Carolyn are the founders of Global Links Medical Foundation which is fully self-funded and works on 0% admin costs. If you are interested in helping them out please visit: www.globalinksmedicalfoundation.org.au

HELP: We want to be the first Football Club in the Shire to get to 22 blood donations for the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (an entire football field full!)

We are currently WINNING the Australian Red Cross Blood Service Blood Rivals comp, ahead of Gymea, Bosco and Bonnet Bay with 17 donations and 51 lives saved so far!

To take part, book a blood donation online or by calling 13 14 95. Make sure you join the Georges River Football Club Red25 group to have your donation count towards our tally.

You can donate at The Shire Donor Centre at 29 Kiora Road, Miranda (free parking in Kiora Mall, below Spotlight) or visit donateblood.com.au to find your nearest donor centre.

Giving blood is easy, takes less than an hour and is a really nice experience. Belinda, on our committee, received a text a couple of days after her donation saying that her blood was on its way to Liverpool Hospital to help save a life... How wonderful!

Congratulations to our fabulous SWD-1s. The girls have had a fantastic season and have already claimed the Minor Premiership with three rounds left to play. Well done!!

CONGRATULATIONS to our Mighty 45C-1s: Their round 15 win big sealed their Minor Premiership, with three games still to play. Well done lads!!

Many thanks to Aaron Jenkins, Michael Poot, Michael Krogh & Bob Holme for carting sand around Oyster Bay Oval so our kids can play this weekend. Thank you so much lads, love your work!

Goalkeeper Training with Bob Holme will commence on Thursday 15th March from 5.30pm – 6.30pm and will continue each Thursday depending on weather and participation.

Keeper training has been on offer for many years and provides an opportunity for young keepers to practice and develop their skills in preparation for their weekend games and therefore assist team coaches.

There is of course no charge for keeper training.

It is geared towards those who are regularly in goal as we aim to work at a level whereby keepers become more competent each week.

Unfortunately, it is not for those very young boys and girls who may play half a game in goals every so often.

It's not every day that FOX Sports Australia comes to the River! As part of the Hyundai Goals For Grassroots initiative, some of our kids were lucky enough to be filmed having a kick with the lads from Sydney FC. After the filming wrapped up all of our kids (and parents!) had the chance to meet Aaron Calver, Rhyan Grant and Anthony Kalik.

Meeting the players

Dates for the 2018 season have been revised to help assist with the registration of players that can benefit from the NSW Active Kids Rebate program.

We were scheduled to commence the season on 24-25 March, with the Easter break the subsequent weekend. It has just been agreed by the SSFA and SSC that Round 1 will now be delayed until 7-8 April.

By extending the season by one week we have effectively gained an additional two weeks prior to the season commencement.

Thinking of planning a holiday in 2018? Please check these revised season dates first: 2018 Competition Dates (updated).
