Goalkeeper Training with Bob Holme will commence on Thursday 15th March from 5.30pm – 6.30pm and will continue each Thursday depending on weather and participation.

Keeper training has been on offer for many years and provides an opportunity for young keepers to practice and develop their skills in preparation for their weekend games and therefore assist team coaches.

There is of course no charge for keeper training.

It is geared towards those who are regularly in goal as we aim to work at a level whereby keepers become more competent each week.

Unfortunately, it is not for those very young boys and girls who may play half a game in goals every so often.

It's not every day that FOX Sports Australia comes to the River! As part of the Hyundai Goals For Grassroots initiative, some of our kids were lucky enough to be filmed having a kick with the lads from Sydney FC. After the filming wrapped up all of our kids (and parents!) had the chance to meet Aaron Calver, Rhyan Grant and Anthony Kalik.

Meeting the players

We were privileged to have one of our homegrown Tigers return from the Bundesliga to have a kick with our next generation of superstars: Cameron Kemp, home for the holidays, stopped in to chat with Fox Sports Australia, catch up with his first goalkeeping coach Bob Holme and the rest of the GRFC Family.

Cameron began his footballing career with Georges River as a 5yo. He played down at “The River” until the U10s when he was selected to play for the Sutherland metro team. That team was successful in the Sydney competition and won. He moved on to the Sutherland Sharks NPL 13’s and 14’s as well as being selected in the inaugural Project 22 and Junior Soccerooos while in the 14’s at Football NSW at Blacktown.

Cameron has played for various NPL teams including Wollongong Wolves, Rockdale Suns and most recently Hakoah 18’s and 20’s. From there her was lucky enough to have the opportunity to move to Cologne and play in Under 19’s Bundesliga 2. He also finished his HSC while living in Germany. He has been lucky enough to gain selection in a senior team in Dusseldorf in a 5th division competition of the Bundesliga.

Cameron is part of the Kemp family who live in Oyster Bay and have played football for Georges River FC for over 20 years. Both his older brother and sister played for “The River” and his dad Michael is keeper for our O45s while his mum Jamelle is in goals for our W30s.

You can see more photos here on our Facebook page.

We're all very proud of you Cameron!

Dates for the 2018 season have been revised to help assist with the registration of players that can benefit from the NSW Active Kids Rebate program.

We were scheduled to commence the season on 24-25 March, with the Easter break the subsequent weekend. It has just been agreed by the SSFA and SSC that Round 1 will now be delayed until 7-8 April.

By extending the season by one week we have effectively gained an additional two weeks prior to the season commencement.

Thinking of planning a holiday in 2018? Please check these revised season dates first: 2018 Competition Dates (updated).

The GRFC Committee kindly donated some of our vintage jerseys to the beautiful people of Fiji. The family of one of our committee members is a "Returnee's Club Member" of Mana Island.  The returnees club regularly raise money to support the local Fijian families and they held an early Christmas Day on Mana Island for Fijian children aged 8 to 18 who are currently receiving treatment for cancer.

It was our pleasure to send over some jerseys for the kids to wear when they hold their next football match, which will be when the weather isn't 40 degrees! May these beautiful Fijian children play the beautiful game in these jerseys for many more years to come!

We still have many jerseys we would happily donate, if you know of a worthwhile charity or if you are travelling to a country you think could use them, please contact our Secretary Debbie Kearns -
